Coffee Beans – Pelican Rouge Doppio Review

Our most recent purchase of coffee beans at home was Pelican Rouge Doppio Fairtrade Coffee Blend 1 kg which we have reviewed for you.

We have had a few bags of Lavazza lately and fancied a change. To be honest i wanted something Fairtrade as I had been teaching my daughter about it during home schooling and decided we should try to buy some more Fairtrade items in our groceries, so this is what attracted me to it on Amazon.

I try to buy organic coffee too if I can but sometimes budget will not stretch to it, so I tend to buy organic if on offer.

Our Thoughts

Normally we make our coffee using a stovetop moka pot at home, so our first try of this was using that.  I ground the beans in our Krups G VX2 42 coffee grinder which we have had so long I cant even remember buying it! I always prefer having beans rather than ground coffee as they are fresher and I just love the coffee aroma that fills the kitchen each time they are ground!

To me it tasted quite different to Lavazza (maybe it was because we had had that for a quite a while before trying Pelican Rouge) I could taste and smell dark chocolate notes and it was quite a rich dark taste and quite strong. Strength 4. It was very pleasant I must say and I would buy again. I do LOVE dark chocolate! It cost around £9.99 for the 1 kg bag so I think the price is very reasonable.

Coffee Beans Conclusion

Love the fact that it is Fairtrade so that the coffee bean farmers are getting a fair price for their goods. Unfortunatly, I do have a downside now! the packaging has the 7 symbol which means that it is not recycled. This makes me sad and i think that Pelican Rouge need to up their packaging game and find a more eco friendly alternative asap. I feel very strongly about this subject so feel that it has let it down, but other than that a good coffee!

A bit about Pelican Rouge……

The Pelican Rouge brand originated in Belgium in 1863 by Joseph van Leckwyck and his sons. The family were among the first to trade roasted coffee in Europe. They wanted to provide affordable coffee to their customers of the highest quality. They now have an extensive product range to cater for a vast array of coffee tastes.
